oh baby. ooh yeah. that's right. er...sorry...what was your name again?
ok, I just spent a good 10 minutes on the IMDB trying to find the name of this actor I had a crush on when I was in college...
he was in, like, a dozen commercials in a row one semester, and my extremely tolerant and observant gentlemanfriend at the time was all 'you always get all squeal-y during that pizza commercial, what gives?' and I'm all "whatever his name is, he will be mine...oh yes, his pterodactyl-origami-folding self will be mine...."
Yes, I know. not only is my former gentleman friend an actor, he is also credited as screaming cock man in the Ron Jeremy Movie. Not having seen this movie, I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. . . but I can tell you that I will mock him soundly the next time I see him.
Anyway. We saw pterodactyl-origami guy in Super Mario Brothers (I must explain that we both had a crush on Samantha Mathis at the time and only went to see the movie for her sake). when the movie was over, we were on the edge of our seats, scouring the credits for his name. He could be only one of two people, and we both picked the wrong one and both screamed "DON LAKE!!!" in the theatre. which, admittedly, wasn't all that crowded, but still.
anyway, I'm sitting at my desk at work today and suddenly got the urge to scream "DON LAKE!!!" for no apparent reason, but I forgot the name and could only remember "ONE-SYLLABLE-NAME ONE-SYLLABLE-NAME!!!" - hence, the IMDB search.
and I realized that the actor I was crushing on was, in fact, NOT Don Lake, but is the lovely and talented Kevin West.
and now I'm sitting here, a little embarrassed that I'd been screaming the wrong man's name for 11 years.

Weird.
I was thinking about that story just last week. I've known for a while now that Don Lake (who bears no small resemblance to KW) is actually a very funny actor known for his work in Christopher Guest's mockumentaries, and that we had it wrong the whole time. I discovered this when I ran into KW at a commercial audition a few years ago (I couldn't talk to him; I couldn't stop giggling long enough to approach him).
But it should be mentioned that H and I screamed "DON LAKE!" every time we saw KW in any commercial or TV show for some time after that. One of those lovers' inside jokes, like "Toilet Pinter" and "TOO LAOUD!" and "Snappy Panda Nursery."
And I hadn't come to visit the PICPIC site in a while, and I thought of that story last week, and tuned in today.
Weird.
