Libraries. books. stories. yay.
Currently on my "just finished reading" shelf:
(soon to be my "just finished reading" bookcase - the lovely gift my lovely gentlemanfriend gave me for christmas...more on that soon...)
Donorboy by Brendan Halpin
Truth and Beauty: A Friendship by Ann Patchett
both donor boy and truth and beauty had me crying and laughing on the train - proving once again that death and mourning can be a glorious melding of happiness (at memories and clever turns-of-phrase) and sorrow (see previous parenthetical statement). hell, I was 40 pages into patchett's story before I realized that it was nonfiction. it was that good. and donorboy, although the epistolary format was a teensy bit stretched at times, had a certain flair that made me want to lend it to everyone I know as an example of how to write a good e-mail...and how to communicate with your family, be you parent or child.
Star by Pamela Anderson
yes. I read everything. but this story kind of reminds me of how I was when I started writing my blog - every post was a glamorized retelling of what happened to me, in which I was the character with which you were intended to sympathize...pamela's thinly veiled autobiography leaves in all the stupid things that happened, but somehow the presentation (liberally assisted by her 'co-writer' Eric Shaw Quinn) has me saying "well good for you, pam. you did stupid things and stupid things happened to you, but gosh darned it if everything didn't turn out more than okay!"
