On excuses and dramatics
so, it's weird.
I don't have that much to do this week. I'm getting ready for a couple of weekend trips, helping my brother set up the mom's new laptop, going to work, unpacking the spring/summer wardrobe and putting away the fall/winter clothes...boring, easy, mindless stuff, pretty much.
you'd think I'd have plenty of time to catch up with the fun personal stuff I didn't do last week, what with the funeral and all. you know, write on the weblog, e-mail the friends in the boonies, dine with girlfriends, drink with the boyfriends, that sort of thing.
but it's all I can do to get up, go to work, come home, and go to sleep.
I don't have a good excuse or anything - not sure what is going on, really.
this has me thinking: why is it that when I fall out of touch, I feel like I gotta dig deep and give some sort of excuse....
like that 4 month stretch when I had 3 jobs and a million lines to memorize for my theatre company - that was a good excuse.
or the month that I lost my job and my apt and my luvah in one fell swoop - now that's an excuse to go catatonic for a while if ever I've heard one. (and yes, jocelyn, I really have to stop mentioning that stupid thing, as it *has* been over a year....man, I really can dwell on stuff, can't i?)
or that week-long migraine that turned out to be mono.
ugh. I have nothing like that this time - to be honest, I've just been kinda low-energy for a few weeks. I still love my friends, my family, my readers, I still want to talk to y'all and do whatever we all do together, but...I'm just having one of those months.
things I have mustered a tiny burst of energy to tend to:
1) IMing with my otherwise lovely friend who describes all of his girlfriends by their ethnicities, so as to make it look like he's got this exotic stable of houris: "yes, I know you had dinner with the japanese brazilian chick, hon. but she was BORN in NEW JERSEY." get over yourself and tell me about the sex, you goofball.
2) picking up some books for the plane - and catching up with my YA reading: picked up the Meg Cabot canon and trying to find my library box that has the Wrinkle In Time series. I love reading weird things on planes - if they don't entertain on their own, it certainly sparks conversations with the cute seatmates in first class...if my glittery pink paperback marks me as a barbie in a world of hardcover grisham-readers, well, there's nothing wrong with being a plastic bombshell for a weekend, what with my lifetime of being a clever tech geek. . .
things I've missed because of the new funk:
1) the world premiere screening of Southside, that movie I did extra work for, oh, so long ago. according to my sources, you get a pretty good look at my bod in the smooching party, and another flash of my face - reminds me of that time in high school when the class drama queen bragged about being an extra in the latest John Hughes, movie (we were so jealous! was he in Breakfast Club II???, ) and it turned out to be that travesty we all know as Uncle Buck. There he is, in his black trench coat and Janet Wood haircut. That's gonna be me, I just know it. be kind, won't you?
2) pretty much every chicago blogger event for the past few weeks. although, from what I hear, I didn't miss anything too interesting - maybe it'll be better next time?
3) The Shaggs' musical. although I have grand plans to catch that show before it leaves town. Say, Multipass, wanna come see it with me?

sometimes the change of seasons thing messes with my energy level . . . it always passes . . . and soon enough you will be sparkling as you move about the city again doing those fabulous things you do :)

Now, although I am not a fan of the musiacl genre, the chance to see you and Chicago again is mighty tempting. Hmmm. So flaterred to be invited.
