Titus!
I've been tivo-ing movies at all hours and watching them in measured increments, between classes and reading and all that other fun stuff.
Watched Titus over the past few days - man, what a fabulous, horrifying flick. I love Julie Taymor for bringing this to the big screen, and love her even more for casting Alan Cumming in the yummy petulant-emperor role. Surreal in art direction, sexy-club-kid in costume design <with contrasting grim middle-ages-meets-WWI military attire>, and typical 'doing Shakespeare with fun visual elements' in concept, I'd recommend Titus to anyone, but can't see myself watching it again all the way through - it's one of his tragic history plays, and every single terrifying moment of the Andronicus 'family' is played for emotional effect, and man, is it effective. And beautiful. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the overlap of Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal with his Titus - nice to see his obvious motivation for the performance of Lecter...<oh god, you MUST check out the photo gallery on that site - this one is how I imagine my friend Tim would pose if he had a fan site...>
soon to come: Vatel, which my friend Taylor describes as "well, this guy, Vatel, he, like, invented the party. And he was like this control freak, he had to do everything, from the catering to the scenery...and there was Uma Thurman, dude."
I'm sold. Granted, the discovery of the other company members- depardieu, roth, stoppard - doesn't hurt, either...
