Near Death - Digital Death
Oh My God. I'm just now recovering from the second near-death of my stupid freakin computer.
The kind of near-death where you have to hope that you've backed everything up.
The kind of near-death where you forget to back up your money stuff and your photos and the e-mails between you and your ex and now you can pretend it never happened except when you install eudora and it downloads all the e-mail you forgot to delete from the server and a big beautiful photo of the both of you fills your entire screen 'cause you neglected to re-size the windows before opening.
it's been that kind of weekend. Except that the stupid freakin computer is finally working, thanks to people <unlike myself> who take computer-problem solving as an interesting challenge, rather than as another excuse to unplug everything, climb up to the roof, drop the cpu onto the concrete, and jump after it, hoping to further compress the prickly computer shards. so far, I've dropped 3 computers, jumped all over their shardy bits, and each time I've felt better. but those times, I had a job. let me tell you, unemployment doesn't pay near enough to replace a computer. Seriously. I checked. I was *that close* to it, I tell you.
apropos of nothing: I went with my sister to meet the photographer she's hiring for her wedding. he's a total fuckin babe. one of those people you want to hire to photograph your wedding, just so he could hang all over your older sister and snog off all her lipstick. Here's hoping! And no, I'm not going to link to his site. 'cause then, he'll see my URL in his referral logs and think "what the hell?' and click it just to see what site he missed in his weekly bridal-website-referral check, and will read my journal and see that i think he's a total babe and e-mail all his friends to tell him what a dork I am and that just can't happen. 'cause I'm five. I'd totally die. so, don't ask, okay?
