happy old year, new people!
Hello to all those new people who happened upon picturepicture while searching for something else entirely. Glad you stayed to read, glad you wrote to say 'hi' - can't wait to start the new year with you all as 'part of the team.'

How could he ever be so foolish?
|
Just because I ask a friend about [him] Just because I spoke [his] name somewhere Just because I rang [his] number by mistake today [He] thinks I still care Just because I haunt the same old places But if [he's] happy thinkin' I still need [him] But how could [he] ever be so foolish Just because I ask a friend about [him] [He] thinks I still care ... with thanks and apologies to George Jones | ![]() |

Tea and Afflatus
gosh, it's hard to find time to blog when you're spending most of your time out and about! I've been painting the town red lately, with trips to the International Museum of Surgical Science (nothing says 'first date' quite like a display case full of historical speculums) and for tea at the Drake and other crazy chicago entertainments.
I tried to take pictures, but these were the only two that turned out: the tea service, and the kinky mirrored ceiling: <and since then, a server issue deleted the mirrored ceiling>

I also ordered a bunch of saris from india, which came in the mail yesterday morning looking all exotic in their linen wrapping - the packet was laced with packets of matching bindis and bracelets and necklaces and was a treat to open. All clothing emporiums should ship with extra special treats - I'd order online more often!
word of the day: afflatus: A term which, amont the ancients, denoted the supposed inspiration of particular persons such as poets...In a figurative sense, inspiration, enthusiasm.
in case you were wondering, afflatus *is* my middle name.

Skyblue and Alan Cumming
Chicago lingo enters the dictionary
"Apparently not content to simply hop and scotch their way all the way to the top, Chicago children over the years have added the unique bellow: Skyblue!"
I had no idea this was a chicago-only sort of thing. seriously. I remember 'skyblue' from when I used to hopscotch (like, 6 months ago) and, golly, you just can't play without it! seriously. what's the point? And what would you put in the arched area at the top of the hop-grid, if not skyblue?
while I'm reading the important parts of the news, I'm delighted to report that Alan Cumming <who has finally pushed Penn Jillette out of the number one spot on the 'most fuckable celebrity' list I've been keeping in my Sassy diary> will be starring in a 'radical' remake of romantic crime show, Hart To Hart.
according to Yahoo UK, Mr And Mr Nash will see Cumming play one half of an interior decorating couple who stumble upon murders.
Hollywood funnyman Steve Martin is developing the show for network ABC.
Martin, whose many on-screen credits include Father Of The Bride, told Variety: "I am proud to be part of Mr And Mr Nash, especially the part where it's a big hit."
Cumming, 37, once played an ultra-camp air hostess in BBC2 sitcom The High Life. But graduated to Hollywood after a celebrated stint on Broadway with musical Cabaret.
If I were any more excited, I'd jump up and down. but that would require physical exertion, so I'll just bounce gleefully in my mind.

Finally! Snow!
finally. snow! and with it, come grainy webcam black-and-white views from my window:

so good to have a real reason for boots. and waterproof gloves. and silly orange hats.
