Chabon

I've said it before, I'll say it again - Michael Chabon is a fun writer, with good ideas and nice execution, but no one should have to look at his publicity photos - ah, to be his stylist and distract him from mugging like a self-conscious goony-pants. Of course, I'm planning on asking for his new book for x-mas. Kiddie-books are the best gifts ever!

Tartt

I know I promised photos from LA, my lovelies, but I left them on my desktop at home...in the mean time, I found this fabulous treat: a preview of Donna Tartt's long-awaited novel: The Little Friend.

Kludd

I couldn't resist this one - such a good word!

word of the day:

kludd: An evil spirit of . . . alarming and dreadful character. In fact, he inspires such fear among peasants that they will on non account venture into a forest, field, or road which is haunted by him. Kludd often transforms himself into a tree, small and delicate at first, but rapidly shooting into the clouds, while everything it shadows is thrown into confusion . . . Most commonly he appears as an old, half-starved horse, and so presents himself to stable-boys and grooms, who mount on it by mistake, instead of on their own horse or mare. Kludd sets off at full speed, the frightened lad clinging on as best he may, till they reach water, into which he rushes and laughs wildly, till his victim, sullen and angry, has worked his way to dry land.

Drummin, Dancin, Singin, Drinkin

Taylor's CD release party went swimmingly on Saturday - the joint was jumpin! I'm so proud of that cat - he really knows how to pull a show together. Drummin, dancin, singin, drinkin...tons of cool people...a great vibe, all around. I know I'll remember that night for years to come.

I only wish my photos turned out - eyemodules are only good for broad daylight, I guess.

Mantichora at darkemans

words of the day:

darkemans: the night.

mantichora: This beast, or rather monster, is bred among the [East} Indians, having a treble row of teeth beneath and above. Its greatness, roughness and feet are like a lion's; its face and ears and eyes are like a man's; it eyes are grey and its color red. Its tail is like the tail of a scorpion, armed with a sting, and casting forth sharp, pointed quills. Its voice is like the voice of a small trumpet or pipe. It is swift as a hart. Its wildness is such that it can never be tamed, and its appetite is especially to the flesh of man. Its body is like the body of a lion, being very apt to both leap and to run on.

chew on those for a bit, darlings. sorry to have been away for so long - I promise to post grainy photos from LA after the weekend...

Official Suburbanite

depressing thought of the day: I'm officially a suburbanite. Yes, I know it's only temporary, but after 10 years of being just a hop skip and jump away from anything and everything wonderful about my city, I'm now driving distance from every fucking thing. gah.

at least I'm not paying rent? at least I have three hours a day to read, while taking the train to-and-fro? I'll be getting in tons of walking and oh god, my jembe is going to be such a pain in the ass to carry during rush hour...

ah well. it's temporary. until I get that job. or until that mysterious benefactor comes along and sets me up with a house and pin-money...that still happens, right?
